Pop Design is a long-standing Slovenian pop band whose story reflects decades of popularity, change, and resilience:
Founded in 1985 by bassist Tone Košmrlj and guitarist Jani Marinšek, Pop Design began as a group of young musicians drawn together by a shared love of pop music.
A significant boost came around 1988 when singer Miran Rudan joined, pushing their visibility higher — the band was gaining nationwide attention. When Rudan left around 1990, singer Vili Resnik joined and that period is often regarded as the band’s “golden era.” With Resnik, Pop Design recorded a string of successful albums, including the 1993 album Ko si na tleh — recorded even partially in the U.S. — which cemented their popularity.
Through the 1990s they enjoyed wide success, earning multiple awards (including the Viktor Award) and gold records; their songs became staples of Slovenian pop music.
However, in 1998 Pop Design temporarily disbanded. The band reunited in the early 2000s (with various lineup changes — e.g., Vili Resnik left, others came back) and continued producing music and performing.
As of 2025, Pop Design celebrated 40 years of existence — testament to their longevity. The current lineup includes Tone Košmrlj (bass), Jani Marinšek (guitar), Martin Erjavec (keys), Luka Petrič (drums) and Maj Vrhovec (vocals) keeping the band active and performing.
